Individual or Group Treatments for Depression and Mood Disorders

Everyone feels sadness, joy, restlessness, or anxiety from time to time. But a mood disorder is different. It affects your everyday emotional state, making it difficult for you to lead a normal, productive life. If left untreated, mood disorders can increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other diseases.

Approximately 1 in 10 people, aged 18 and older, suffers from a mood disorder, such as depression or bipolar disorder. Fortunately, there is treatment for mood disorders – including medication and psychotherapy – that can minimize, if not eliminate, symptoms.

The therapists at Neuro Behavioral Center are ready to provide individual and group treatments for depression and mood disorders to Walpole and Norwood, MA, area residents. Through various in-office treatments and Telehealth visits, we can help you regain and maintain functionality, so that you are able to work through depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders.

We can perform on-site evaluations in order to determine the depth of your struggle and which combination of treatments will best manage your symptoms. We will collaborate with all your care providers to ensure that you have holistic, consistent support and treatments.

At Neuro Behavioral Center, our team of skilled therapists treat various types of mood disorders:

Depression

Depression is a common yet serious mood disorder that severely affects the way you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working.  Symptoms include persistent sadness, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, or helplessness, loss of interest, and a lack of energy.

There are several forms of depression, including:

  • Persistent depressive disorder, also known as dysthymia, lasts for at least two years.
  • Postpartum depression that many women experience after childbirth.
  • Psychotic depression - severe depression accompanied by delusions and/or hallucinations.
  • Seasonal affective depression triggered by a lack of sunlight during winter months.

Depression may be caused by a combination of factors including biological, psychological, and social sources of distress. Treatment for depression can include medication, lifestyle changes, and talk therapy.

Bipolar Disorder

Also known as manic depression or manic-depressive disorder, bipolar disorder is an unstable emotional condition characterized by cycles of abnormally high (manic) and low (depression) mood swings.

The exact cause of bipolar disorder isn’t known, but it is believed a combination of genetics, environment, and altered brain structure and chemistry. Mood episodes can last days to months at a time and may include suicidal thoughts.

Treatment for bipolar disorder is usually a lifelong process and involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
