Genetic Testing

Every patient is different and our clinical team at Neuro Behavioral Center believes that your treatment should be specific and tailored to you.

Our partnership with Tempus allows us to receive information on your unique genomic profile, which can help your healthcare provider to select, and develop a customized treatment plan for you based on how certain genes affect your body’s response to medication. The Tempus genetic test provides you and your healthcare provider with your specific, personalized gene report. The report contains information about how you may metabolize certain medications and how you may experience certain side effects from these medications. The results of the Tempus genetic test can be used by your healthcare provider to help select the best treatment plan for you.

If you choose to do the test based on your healthcare provider’s recommendations, you will receive a saliva specimen kit from our staff at the office or by mail in a couple of days.

Please make sure to complete and send the kit back to Tempus as soon as possible. The kit should take about 5 - 10 minutes to complete and comes with a prepaid FedEx shipping label to send back to Tempus.

A link to an instructional video is included below explaining the brief steps in the saliva collection process.

It is important not to eat, drink, chew tobacco/ gum, smoke, etc 30 minutes prior to collecting your sample. Please remember to attach your completed label to your sample tube with one of the labels included in your kit.

Please also make sure to complete the consent.securetempus.com at your earliest convenience, which is required for testing.

If you would like to try and reduce your cost, please fill out the Tempus Financial Assistance Application (FAP). When completing the Patient Billing Form included in the kit, if you choose the option to bill your insurance, please also check off the box in Section 2 which states "If my out-of-pocket cost with insurance exceeds $295, please, automatically switch me to the self-pay price of $295". Completing this step will greatly speed up your test completion time.

Tempus also believes cost transparency is important so that you are not surprised by a bill. As a result, Tempus performs a benefit check on every patient who uses insurance and guarantees that no patient will pay more than $295 while many pay much less:

  • Patients with Medicare Part B (Medicare administered by the federal government for outpatient services) have no out-of-pocket costs.
  • Patients with other forms of government insurance (i.e. Medicaid, Tricare) or patients with "extenuating circumstances" typically have no out-of-pocket costs.
  • Extenuating circumstances include indigent patients, patients on disability, students not covered by their parent's income and medical plans, and those who qualify for the FAP.

Tempus' Customer Success team will connect with any patient expected to owe more than $295 out-of-pocket to discuss payment options before proceeding with the test (only when the box indicated above is left unchecked). Customer Success may use phone, email, and/or text messaging to reach you. Tempus also has a financial assistance program to help provide access to our tests for any patient in financial need.
